Cummings took to social media to explain how sexist extortionists tried to take advantage of her

Comedian and actress Whitney Cummings decided to take the high, public road when it came to dealing with internet trolls and potential extortionists who threatened to release a topless photo of her if she didn’t “pay up.”

Let this be a lesson to all the internet cretins out there — there are plenty of women who will refuse to take your shit. Not only is Whitney Cummings one of them, but she’ll do you one better by beating you at your own game.

Earlier this week, Cummings explained the situation to her social media followers. Earlier this year, she posted an image of herself to her Instagram stories. That image was up only briefly, as Cummings realized her boob + nipple was visible in it. The scandal of it all!

“In April I accidentally posted an insta story that showed nipple,” she wrote on Twitter. “Once I realized, I deleted. The people who took screen grabs are trying to get money from me, some said they have offers to sell them, some are asking for money to not post the photo.”

And because she refused to be shamed or go through the endless legal lengths to put a stop to the extortion over one little nipple, she went ahead and shared the pic herself.

“They must all think I’m way more famous than I am, but they also must think I’m way more easily intimidated than I am.” And she capped off the message by calling them “foolish dorks,” which is just the icing on the cake here.

Soon enough, the hashtag “#IStandWithWhitney” became massively viral, and people all over were showing their support. Because honestly, it’s a nipple. Who cares? We’ve all got them. And also, it’s an extremely crappy thing to have to go through.

Here’s a photo of a stretch mark I got from stress eating burritos. It’s the most embarrassing thing in my phone other than my career bio. #IStandWithWhitney pic.twitter.com/hXZWYkpdwm

Someone tried to extort @WhitneyCummings by threatening to post her nudes online and I won’t post my own nudes in solidarity but I’ll do something way more embarrassing and post my teenage scene phase. #IStandWithWhitney pic.twitter.com/E7mYdUwb7b

Be warned, some of Whitney Cummings’ friends went above and beyond. Like fellow comedian Bert Kreisher here (no really, BE WARNED):

#IStandWithWhitney Hey @WhitneyCummings I hate what those dorks tried to do to you – here’s an embarrassing picture of my testicles after I fell on a waterslide. pic.twitter.com/cug0VkbTDt

More importantly, Cummings shed light on what it’s like to be a woman in the spotlight vs. a man when it comes to sensitive matters like this.

“When a woman in the public eye is extorted, we have to spend time, money, and energy dealing with it, hiring lawyers and security experts, and living with a pit in our stomach about when and how we will be humiliated. Y’all can have my nipple, but not my time or money anymore.”

Cummings admitted she didn’t want to share the identities of any of the scummy assholes who were attempting to profit from her nipple photo because she thought some of them might be “dumb kids.” Which is far more grace than they deserve and hopefully they know how lucky they are she didn’t put them on blast. Or worse, track down their mothers on social media and expose their sons for the toxic trolls they are.

After receiving an outpouring of support, Cummings tweeted out her gratuity.

Thank you everyone who sent me embarrassing pictures of yourselves to make me feel better about my embarrassing photo. It means the world to me, but I wouldn’t freak out if you stopped sending me photos of your hairy balls.
